FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a battery-free absolute encoder?

The battery-free absolute encoder is an absolute measuring device. The current position is checked using a fixed gear. So far, a back-up battery for data storage has always been required with conventional absolute encoders - this is now superfluous in the new IAI series.

The main advantage of this battery-free absolute encoder is particularly evident after a system shutdown.  All position data is retained. The current position is taken immediately -  without any homing. This also applies in the case of a triggered emergency stop.
