Servo presses for push and pull operation

Electric servo presses are ideal for pressing, joining, fastening or riveting workpieces because of their control options and variable stroke lengths. The new RCP6 servo presses can be used not only for pushing but also for pulling movements.

All IAI servo-electric presses have a battery-free absolute encoder. The thrust forces are between 60 N and 50 kN, the stroke lengths between 110 mm and 500 mm. On some models, the thrust time is unlimited.

RCS3 & RCS2 presses with servo motor

RCS3 & RCS2 servo presses are characterised by their precise positioning control, easy thrust force adjustment and accurate position monitoring. They provide high holding stability during press assembly and are therefore optimal for pushing operations.

The thrust force adjustment and position monitoring are based on the feedback data from the built-in load cell. It detects the force acting on the press object and enables precise force control with a repeatability of ± 0.5 %  final value deviation (FS).

Application software with press assembly programs

The comprehensive application software offers a total of eight different press assembly methods that can be used for a wide range of press movements. There is a choice between the control modes "speed control" or "force control".

In addition, a stop method can be selected from the four stop conditions "position", "travel", "load" or "incremental load".

SCON controller for RCS3 & RCS2 servo presses

The SCON controller, which is compatible with RCS3 and RCS2, has interfaces to all common fieldbus networks. The target position, speed, acceleration, etc. are entered into the control via corresponding position numbers and then each number is specified externally via input/output signal for axis operation.

A variety of functions have been integrated for preventive maintenance. Among other things, the temperature fluctuations in the motor are permanently monitored and a warning signal is given when a motor overload is detected. In addition, the number of cycles with the travel distance covered is recorded in order to control the maintenance cycles.

High-resolution battery-free absolute encoder

All IAI servo presses are equipped with high-resolution, battery-free absolute encoders. Their advantages are that no reference point has to be approached during commissioning after an emergency shutdown or operating error and no home sensor is necessary.

In addition, there is also no need for maintenance and replacement of the back-up battery, which is used for position storage.

Advantages of battery-free absolute encoders

  • No reference point travel
  • No external home sensor
  • No workpiece removal after an emergency stop
  • No battery change, no battery disposal

RCP6 Pulse press for push and pull operation

The RCP6 pulse press is an actuator combining a stepper motor and load cell, that is capable of performing power control. It provides a loading repeatability of ±1.0% F.S. (full scale), based on feedback from the load cell.

Both pushing and pulling operations are supported in the load direction. There are no limitations on pushing or pulling times.
