Simply usable without elaborate encapsulation
Whereas pneumatic drives are only safe enough for the processing of foods after elaborate encapsulation, the electrical waterproof/dust-proof actuators from IAI can be used with no further structural measures. There is no danger of a leakage here. One reason for the uncomplicated installation without the necessity for additional units is their flexibility and low space requirement, which reduces the time and costs of commissioning.
Constant stroke speed and mechanical self-locking
The actuators are characterised by a constant stroke speed and mechanical self-locking. They are particularly suitable for machines in which a resting position must be maintained – including with the assistance of their adjustable pushing and holding force. Their pneumatic rivals, on the other hand, have only two end positions as standard – intermediate positions can only be driven to with considerable expenditure.
Precise – reliable – maintenance-free
The high precision of the linear drives is also in demand in the food industry: they can be positioned with an accuracy of hundredths of a millimetre. For example, they position flaps and sliders precisely, lock rolling doors or move tilting devices, vertical windows and scissor lifts. Apart from hygiene and insensitivity to heat, cold and dust, it is above all their reliability, freedom from maintenance and considerably longer service life compared to pneumatic drives that play a part here.
Ideal for food technology and many other industries
The water-protected RoboCylinders actuators have specific properties that make them particularly interesting for food technology and in general for workpiece processing and packaging systems. As far as hygiene is concerned, only a very small risk of contamination can arise here from the components used and they are easy to clean.
The axes, which are available as slider and rod types, are characterised by an innovative frame cover, base seal, mounting holder and slider/rod guide and are protected against water from cleaning systems. This enables protection class IP65 to be achieved with a supply of compressed purge air (IP54 without compressed air supply).

The protection classes are determined on the basis of IEC standards. The respective protection against the penetration of water is represented as follows:
